About Our Seeds
In 1989, Seeds of Change started with a simple mission: to help preserve biodiversity and promote sustainable, organic agriculture. By cultivating and disseminating hundreds of open-pollinated, organically grown, heirloom and traditional vegetable, flower and herb seeds, we continue to fulfill this mission while also striving to provide organically grown seed for the burgeoning organic food market.
Seeds: Our seed list is like our extended family. They are the plants we live with day to day, nurturing them as they nurture us. We choose carefully what we add to our list from year to year. In 2008 we welcomed over 60 new varieties into the Seeds of Change family and continue to search for the most vigorous, flavorful, and endangered vegetables, flowers, and herbs.
Zone Chart: Seeds typically sown for annual production can be grown in most parts of the world. In short season areas, greenhouses or other season extenders may be needed to bring longer-season varieties to maturity. Each of our seed varieties lists its "Days to Maturity" as a guide to help you plan your garden. Successful perennial gardening requires an understanding of the hardiness zone in your specific microclimate. An easy way to find your zone is by knowing what your minimum temperature is during the wintertime. You can check your zone on the USDA Zone Chart on our Seed website. Each of our perennial varieties lists its hardiness zone range as a guide to where it will grow. Microclimates can be created to extend that range.
